BiPAP machine on rent, set up at home

A BiPAP machine on rent from Eldrly costs ₹6,000 a month, delivered and set to the pressures the treating doctor has prescribed. BiPAP supports breathing with two pressures — higher when breathing in, lower when breathing out — and is prescribed at home for COPD, some heart-failure patients and others who need help moving air without a hospital ventilator.

BiPAP or CPAP?

CPAP gives one continuous pressure and is the machine for obstructive sleep apnoea. BiPAP gives two pressures and is prescribed when the lungs need help to breathe out as well as to stay open — COPD, neuromuscular weakness, some heart failure. The doctor decides; the machines are not interchangeable.

What you need before it arrives

A prescription with the IPAP and EPAP pressures and the hours of use. The machine is set to those numbers at installation and the settings are locked; the family does not adjust them.

Living with it

  • The mask fit matters more than anything else — a leaking mask means no therapy. Ask for a refit if it leaks or marks the face.
  • Wash the mask daily and the tubing weekly; replace filters as advised.
  • Use distilled water in the humidifier.
  • A nurse visit can check the mask, the skin under it and the patient’s comfort; Eldrly nursing plans include these.

Delivery, installation and return

Rental is monthly. The equipment is delivered to the address, installed and demonstrated, and collected when the rental ends. Everything is cleaned and checked between rentals. The rental price excludes consumables — masks, tubing, filters, sheets — which are billed as used.
